During these uncertain times, one thing you can be certain about is Domenico wine and food. Our mission has always been to provide mouthwatering wines and delicious foods that bring people together. Since our Osteria is now open for both outdoor and indoor dining now at limited capacity, we thought we’d give you three comfort wines paired with comfort foods you can pick up, have delivered to your home, or enjoy with us at the Osteria. Polpette and 2015 Nero d’Avola

We’re starting off this salivating voyage with a Domenico staple paired with a new release – the Polpette and our 2015 Nero d’Avola. Co-owner Gloria Chirichillo is famous for this meatball recipe that includes house-made meatballs, fresh Ricotta, San Marzano marinara sauce, and fresh basil served with freshly grilled bread. This dish craves a wine that can offer plenty of muscle to the palate.

Enter the 2015 Nero d’Avola — with aromas of ripe blackberries, cranberries, and coffee and notes of herbs, florals, and subtle spices, this wine is the perfect match for a rich, meaty dish. Its seductive sweet qualities balance in harmony with not just the meatballs, but the San Marzano marinara sauce and Ricotta as well. If you’re looking for the best of savory and sweet, this combination is for you.

Regina Pizza and the 2015 Negroamaro

The Regina pizza has made a triumphant return to the Domenico Osteria menu and boy, are we glad! This red pie with San Marzano tomato sauce is topped with fresh burrata, mozzarella, basil, Parmigiano Reggiano, and cherry tomatoes. We suggest pairing this delicious favorite with a brand new wine to Domenico, the 2015 Negroamaro. We are delighted to share this wine that has a history as rich as its flavors. If you’ve never met Negroamaro, let us introduce you!

Negroamaro is a dark-skinned grape that has been associated with the Puglia region in southern Italy for at least 1,500 years. It’s most commonly found in a blend, alongside Primitivo, Malvasia Nera, Sangiovese, or Montepulciano. Our Negroamaro is full of floral and raspberry aromas with sprinkles of nutmeg and dry herbs. It’s medium-bodied with a pleasant toffee finish that lingers. What makes this pairing so special is the burrata. Negroaramo and burrata are a match made in heaven that makes for a smooth, almost sweet, marriage on the palate. Indulge in Italian decadence with this pairing — you won’t be disappointed.

Dark Chocolate Gelato and Black Silk, Ruby Red Dessert Wine

Don’t worry, we did not forget about dessert! We decided to go with a classic that’s hard to say no to – our dark chocolate gelato paired with Black Silk, Ruby Red Dessert Wine. Since there’s no better way to end a savory meal than with some double sweetness, this pairing is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth without overpowering your palate. Our simple, decadent, homemade dark chocolate gelato is as needed as a period at the end of a sentence and serves as a fantastic match for Black Silk. Black Silk is a sweet, full-bodied dessert wine that opens with aromas of fig, blackberry jam, and dried prunes with a mix of cardamom and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it reveals rich, luscious flavors of chocolate mocha, raisins, and a hint of sandalwood that ends in a long silky finish. Made from three Portuguese varietals, you can’t go wrong with this Port-inspired wine paired with a favorite Italian dessert.
